Why a Regional Transit System?

Population and Employment Growth: By 2015 - more than one million people will live in Bernalillo, Sandoval, and Valencia Counties, and there will be more than 80,000 new jobs in the region.

Increased Drive Times: More than 80% of the new jobs will be located in Bernalillo county. With over 300,000 people living in neighboring counties, more cars will travel into Albuquerque and Bernalillo county; the travel forecast is for longer commute times.

Changing Demographics: Our population is aging, staying active and maintaining its independence. People don’t want to be stuck at home. In 2006, just over 93,000 individuals were age 65 and older. In 2030, that number is projected to almost triple to nearly 270,000 individuals. More people will rely on public transportation to remain active in their community.

Economic Competitiveness: Transit is a key factor in deciding where to locate a business. Google opened a 600 person office in Phoenix because of access to a regional transit system. A regional transit system was a key factor in why Boeing chose Chicago to locate its headquarters.

Save Money: According to AAA New Mexico the average cost of gas for one year is $7,823*. Taking the bus or train even one day a week can keep money in your wallet.

Environmental Concerns: A regional transit system not only keeps green in your pocket, but is good for the environment. A car uses more than three times the amount of fuel than a train and produces more than three times the amount of CO2 emissions.**

Less Stress: Public Transportation takes the stress out of driving - No road rage, modern and convenient!
